Canine Aspirations' Dog Training Classes

Due to COVID-19, group classes are currently unavailable. If you would like to set up a private lesson, contact us via email or phone or click here to set up a free zoom session to learn about our options.

Jenn McKay, CPDT-KA, ANWI of Canine Aspirations teaches group classes and private lessons.

Classes not currently offered:
Reactive Agility - (for dogs with issues with other dogs - only one dog is off-leash working at any one time) Prerequisites: Instructor approval. Must have basic obedience skills. No agility experience necessary. Come to class ready to have some fun learning about agility with your dog. We start working on getting the dogs comfortable on equipment and on handling exercises with single obstacles. In addition to agility training, we will work on your dog's ability to work around other dogs. Some of our reactive students are able to work through their dog's reactivity enough to safely take regular classes and/or compete (4 dog/handler teams maximum).

Beginner Agility Class -
Prerequisites: Must have basic obedience skills and be able to work around other dogs. Dogs must be dog-friendly. No agility experience necessary. Come to class ready to have some fun learning about agility with your dog. We start working on getting the dogs comfortable on equipment and on handling exercises with single obstacles. Puppies are welcome - if your dog is under 16 months of age, jumps will be kept below hock height and we will not work on any regular contact equipment or weave poles (we can still work planks, tippy boards, handling, motivation, etc..).

Agility Foundations Class -
We will be working primarily on handling and short sequences. Prerequisites: Must have basic obedience skills and be able to work around other dogs. Dogs must be dog-friendly.

Intermediate
Agility Class - Prerequisites: Beginner and Advanced Beginner Agility classes and instructor approval. Dogs must be dog-friendly. We work full sequences and equipment at this level of agility.

Advanced Beginner Agility Class - Prerequisites: Instructor approval. For dogs working on learning full contact equipment. Weave poles can still be in progress. Should be able to do sequences of 4-8 obstacles.

Intro to Nosework - This class will introduce dogs to the sport of nosework.

K9 Fitness Class - We will work on teaching body awareness and strengthening our dogs in this short fun class. K9 Fit Paws equipment will be used for some exercises. Dogs can be of any age, should be in good health with no known injuries, and should come to class in a non-restrictive body harness (NOT a no-pull harness) preferably with a handle, such as a julius k9 harness or similar.

Rally Obedience Class - all levels - Rally obedience is a sport in which dog and handler move through a numbered course. Depending on the level, there can be anywhere from 12-24 stations. Each station consists of a pace change, a stationary skill (such as a sit, down or stand), or a moving skill (serpentine through cones, 360 degree turn left, finish, about turns, etc…).

This class will focus on the skills required for all levels of AKC and WCRL. We will work on how to train individual skills, short sequences and complete courses for the two above listed organizations.

Prerequisites: Must have basic obedience skills and be able to work around other dogs. Dogs must be dog-friendly. Handlers must have experience with clicker training.
